很多同学看到“停电”，
第一反应都是 the electricity stopped.

但是你知道吗：
stop常用于机器设备停止工作,交通工具停驶,人或事物的动作结束等情况。

比如：
The engine stopped running.
发动机停止了工作。

The bus stopped at the station.
公车在站点停了下来。

如果要表达“停电”，下面的表达是更加地道哦！

power outage /ˈpaʊər ˈaʊtɪdʒ/
意思是电力中断。

Yesterday there was a power outage in our neighborhood for 2 hours.
昨天我们社区停电了2个小时。

blackout /ˈblækaʊt/ 意思是大面积停电
The blackout is caused by the snowstorm .
暴雪造成的大面积停电。

power cut /ˈpaʊə kʌt/ 意思是电力切断
There will be a power cut tomorrow morning.
明天上午会停电。

power failure /ˈpaʊə ˈfeɪlyə/ 意思是电力故障
The power failure last night was caused by a fallen tree damaging the power lines.

昨晚的电力故障是因为一棵倒树损坏了电线。

the power died /ðə ˈpaʊə daɪd/ 比喻电力断掉了

In the middle of the movie the power died and the theater went dark.
